Assemblies

Assemblies can build experiences that will go a long way towards children learning about values, religious festivals, special days, songs and other information. Our class assemblies serve as a place not only for developing confidence but also for developing social, interpersonal and public speaking skills.

House Meetings

The house system provides a good platform for the holistic development of students. It forms the basis of all competitions and activities in school and fosters team spirit, group loyalty and healthy competition. The school is divided into four houses namely Abdul Kalam House, Srinivasa House, Vikram Sarabhai House, Jagdish Chandra Bose House.Students exhibit their talents and skills to bring glory to their respective houses.

Sports

The school has provisioned for two Lawn Tennis Courts, a basketball court, football field, cricket pitch, swimming pool, table tennis equipment etc…
Play zone with various play wares has been catered for small children.
Provision for skating, gymnastics, yoga and various indoor games has been catered for.
The well- qualified Physical Training Instructors will always present to give tips and for coaching in all the sports.

Celebrations

We at the Modern school celebrate all festivals with the aim of making the child aware of the reason behind festivities and mutual respect to all regardless of caste or religion. The new term beginning in April sees children being regaled with tales of Lord Mahavira and Buddha, Good Friday and Id interwoven with Sanskaras of ahimsa and non-violence, thus laying the foundation for making our country a role model for multicultural democracy.

Nature Walks

These are an interregnal part of our curriculum. We believe that Mother Nature has more to teach than any formal style prevalent. Our faculty ensures that we integrate our teaching wherein the child has stepped out beyond the class room to imbibe. Watching the change in the colour of leaves, birds weaving a nest, flowers drying to give seeds etc are just a few we can name here….

Art

This is closely connected to our nature walks. Not only do we let the students explore and discover, we also let their creativity bloom unbound.

Through art, students are offered a doorway to enhance their creative and abstract thinking skills.

Music

Help develop powerful expression of thoughts and emotions in creative and inspiring ways.
The school provides a platform for vocal (Western and Indian) as well as instrumental music.

Dance

The Department of Dance of Modern School has its own heritage value. The students learn various Indian classical dance and western dance forms. The department works to hone the ability, skill and confidence of the students.

“Me” to “We”

Sharing, caring and team spirit is the core strength of Me to We concept. We at the Modern School inculcate in a child the above by having group activities in various setups, starting from classrooms to various co curricular activities.

Mike Practice

Before the child actually embarks on a larger platform, he is provided an opportunity on a scale down model to help boost his confidence and acquire the correct diction, pronunciation and voice modulation.

Circle Time

The class re-arrange their seating so that they are in a circle facing each other. This means that eye-contact is possible at all times. With its co-operative activities and discussion, Circle Time ensures that each student gets a chance to contribute and feel valued. Circle Time boots interpersonal skills, strengthens relationships and enhances self-confidence while allowing the class and its teacher to have fun together. This is also integrated with storytelling at times.

This helps children express better and be poised and confident.

Linguistic and Brain Games

These are introduced as a part of the summer camp activity and shall be carried forward to the class rooms subsequently. These help students build vocabulary and think on their feet.

Clay Modelling

This is an important part of our curriculum, both at the pre primary and the primary level. It helps develop the fine motor skills and give expression to abstract ideas. It further helps a child visualize and conceptualise on a 3 dimensional sphere.

Life Skills

This not only helps our students to develop a civic sense but also helps them to adapt to the environment beyond home and school. The same is taught by enactments, role play and interactive sessions.

Exploratory Learning

Learning by exploring and expression of one’s latent talent is possible by virtue of letting the child indulge in activities that interest them. Not only does it help in identifying area of interest, but also excel in the same.

Excursions

Excursions to places of historic importance, Nature parks, important work centres like bank, factories etc are an integral part of the curriculum. These help a child to have a better understanding of the surroundings

Ecology

The students are actively involved in various projects like the tree plantation drive, segregation of waste, conservation of water and electricity. The students are sensitised about the importance of the resources and how each one of us can contribute as individuals.
